The Shawshank Redemption - Novel and Film

A poster of Hayworth was used as a plot device in Stephen King's short story, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption from the Stephen King anthology Different Seasons (ISBN 0-7515-0433-5). The plot of the story revolves around Andy Dufresne's life in prison after being wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover, how he was able to maintain his integrity, and how he escaped from prison.

Then the novel was made into film in 1994 titled The Shawshank Redemption. It was starred by Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as Ellis "Red" Redding who became Andy's closest friend in prison. It has been constantly listed as one of the greatest movies of all time. A clip from Rita's Gilda (1946) movie was used as a poster to cover the hole in the wall used by Andy to escape.
